Car Show – III

Happy Independence Day! If you are an American this is a big thing, even if the holiday does fall on a Wednesday this year.  For the rest of us, it is just another summer day. I could go on a rant about America’s history and place in the world, its politics and social problems, but […]

Car Show – II

Mostly pictures today, from Sunday’s car show that was held as part of the Mullheim Stadtfest, or City Festival. There were a lot of vehicles I had never seen before outside of books and movies. That’s what happened when you are in Europe I guess – there were certainly no old Fords. No really old […]

Car Show – I

I’m not and never have been a car guy. If it has four wheels and gets me where I am going, then I’m happy. Which examine why I drive an 16-year-old Opel. Still, I went to the car show Sunday in Mullheim. It wasn’t something I could avoid – the three blocks closed to traffic […]

Refreshment

There seem to be water fountains everywhere I go in Germany. Usually attached to what was probably a trough to allow horses to drink. And a sign that says “kein Trinkwasser,” which means you shouldn’t drink it. I figure there’s probably nothing wrong with the water, but the pipes are probably old and lead. A […]

What A Difference a Day Makes

Thursday was sunny, and the stream that runs through Mullheim was freezing over. It didn’t feel that cold to me, and running water takes a while to freeze. Friday was cloudy, then a snow storm hit (though we didn’t see snow in Sulzburg, 10 kilometres away). Seemed like the same temperature to me, but it […]

Public Transit Quirk

Coming from a North American city and settling in rural Germany, you know some things are going to be different. One of those things cropped up yesterday. We were taking the bus between Sulzburg and Mullheim. Depending on the time of day, the bus takes either 20 or 40 minutes to make the trip. It […]

The Rink

I saw the sign, and didn’t think it was that big a deal. From Nov. 26 to Dec. 27 there would be a skating rink set up on the pedestrian mall in Mullheim, the largest town in our region. It is only now that I am beginning to appreciate that it is a big event. […]

Walking Through Mullheim

It’s always a delight to discover beauty in an urban environment. Not that Mullheim, the largest town in our area, is that urban – but it seems that way. I found this stream by chance when I was looking for something else. Life is like that some days.
