My son came for a visit last week. I assumed one of the reasons was to enjoy some of my cooking. Why else leave sunny Rome for cloudy Sulzburg? I asked if there was anything he would particularly like, and he said no, which left it up to me. I enjoy cooking. It’s partly […]
There have been many words, probably millions, written in the past couple of weeks after the latest mass shooting in the United States. I debated whether I was going to contribute to the discussion, wrote a post and put it on the back burner, deciding that a few more days or weeks to percolate was […]
Thursday was sunny, and the stream that runs through Mullheim was freezing over. It didn’t feel that cold to me, and running water takes a while to freeze. Friday was cloudy, then a snow storm hit (though we didn’t see snow in Sulzburg, 10 kilometres away). Seemed like the same temperature to me, but it […]
One last look at the snow and the view – until summer anyway.
Today and tomorrow just a few more pictures of one of the Black Forest’s foremost tourist atractions.
When we arrived at the top of the Belchen, the highest peak in the area, I realized that I had probably seen it before, albeit from a distance. I’m sure I can see it from the outskirts of Sulzburg, I just hadn’t known what it was. My wife had visited this mountain with friends a […]
Going to do things a little differently today. Normally when I visit a major tourist attraction and take lots of pictures I tell you all about it and then follow up with a photo post. I’ve decided instead today to give you a sampling of pictures first, and talk about this mountain on my next […]
I came across this sign at Vimy Ridge in France. It is a beautiful place to visit, but not without its perils. You can walk into the craters if you wish; other than the sign there is really nothing to stop you, except a strand of rope. But you do so at your own peril. […]
Just a little something to exercise your brain this morning. I’m a written word guy – I love to read. This seems simple, until you try it. I couldn’t do it on the first try, but found if I take it slowly and concentrate, I can get all the way through this correctly. How about […]
We were out for a walk in the nearby vineyards and came across this fallen tree – with a large carving as part of it. It appeared to have been brought there and was beside a pile of what looked like firewood. I’m sure there’s a story there, but there was no-one around to ask.
