Went for a short walk yesterday and noticed it was Christmas tree pickup day. I guess that, not Epiphany, signifies the real end to the Christmas season.
In Ottawa disposing of a Christmas tree is a casual affair. Yard trimmings are accepted every week (unlike garbage which is collected every second week). In Sulzburg, if you have a Christmas tree there is only one opportunity to dispose of it. There was the special collection yesterday. Anyone who missed it is on their own when it comes to getting rid of their tree. Although I suppose they could hold on to it until the next collection day in 2019.
As I headed out for my daily walk yesterday I came across the municipal crew doing the annual collection. The tractor had a bin on front for little trees, and a larger trailer behind for full-sized ones.
It was a simple enough operation. It did look strange to me though. Christmas is over – and there’s still no hint of snow. The long-range forecast only goes two weeks, and there’s no snow in the foreseeable future. Maybe it too will wait for next Christmas.
