While walking from Dottingen to Heitgersheim a couple of months ago we saw what looked like a scenic lookout on the ridge. At that point there wasn’t time (nor energy) to investigate further, but I promised myself we would return to see what the view was like.
This past Sunday afternoon we went for a walk through the vineyards along the ridge we had seen, as discovered that the lookout is the top of a water tower built in 1910. I don’t remember Canadian water towers looking quite so nice.
On three sides the view is area vineyards; the fourth side faces towards Heitersheim – you can see the “castle” where they had their Christmas Market last month. Even on a dull January day the view was nice – I imagine it would be much more beautiful in the sunshine when the grapes are growing. A nice place for a picnic, something I will keep in mind for the summertime.
