Don’t You Love Computers?

Today’s post is photo dependent – and for some reason the photos aren’t uploading to this site.

So instead of some pictures of a picturesque town you’ve never heard of before, you instead get this mini-rant. How do I know you’ve never heard of the town? I’m just guessing – we discovered it be accident on one of our walks.

I had a work colleague last week with computer issues. More than one colleague actually. The first one is just suffering the frustrations of an old computer. Maybe it’s anthropomorphism, but it seems computers are a lot like people – as they age they slow down. You just can’t do the things you used to.

For my colleague the solution is simple – just buy a new machine. The situation is trickier with people, though there are those who advocate a similar response. They see people as disposable machines, not living beings created in God’s image. Perhaps a future post will touch on that – depending on the results of the survey I’ve been running, which closes in a couple of days.

My second colleague has had more drastic problems with his machine. I don’t know the details, but I do know he took the drastic step to uninstall and then reinstall his operating system. I gather that didn’t work either. I think his computer may be dead. Fortunately he is diligent and does daily backups on his machine, so he hasn’t lost anything.

So for a few pictures to not load is a very minor inconvenience. I’ll (hopefully) figure out the problem later today. But first there is church, and then dinner guests, so it will be a while before I can turn my attention to it.

For me, the answer to the question I posed in the title to today’s post is really simple. Of course I love computers. So much of what I do would be impossible without them. What I don’t love is when they don’t do as I tell them.

I’d say that in those cases they are like small children, but that would be anthropomorphizing.

Have a great Sunday!
