More Driftwood
I love walking on the beach early in the morning before the crowds arrive. usually it is just an expanse of sand, but sometimes the waves bring in some interesting wooden shapes.
Drifting In
Like sand dollars and sea glass, chunks of driftwood on the beach in Maine are a lot rarer than in my childhood. I saw these ones in July – probably more in one day than in the past three or four summers combined.
New Warning
This was a new one for me. I can’t decide if it is overkill or necessary. In almost seven decades of summertime visits to Old Orchard Beach, I don’t recall seeing this one before. Admittedly the technology to deliver weather warnings to my phone didn’t exist for most of that time. For that matter, neither […]
Sunrise At Last
Some people sleep in on vacation. Not me. A good day is when I am up in time to see the sun rise over the Atlantic Ocean. On this year’s annual pilgrimage to Maine, it seemed that I wasn’t going to see a sunrise. Cloud and wildfire smoke seemed to limit the view every morning. […]
Words in the Sand
Two words drawn in the sand at low tide provided the direction for my thoughts Wednesday as I walked along the beach just after sunrise: Trust God. Easier said than done. We live in an era and among a people that distrusts authority, while at the same time believing anything and everything we see on […]
Sunrise…Sort of
About this time each year I share photos of the sunrise over Old Orchard Beach, Maine. I expected to to do that again today. Except, even though I have been on the beach before 5:30 each morning this week, I haven’t seen any sunrises. Some days it has been cloudy, others hazy (possibly wildfire smoke […]
Images of Sunrise 2024
What would August be like if I didn’t share new photos of the sun rising over the Atlantic Ocean at Old Orchard Beach, Maine? This year I was up early enough to be on te beach for the sunrise each day, but most days were either overcast or foggy. Today’s photo essay is a sampling […]
Supermoon Risen
More photos taken of the supermoon when I was on vacation in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, earlier this month. If you can, check out tonight’s moonrise.
Supermoon Rising
There are four of them in 2023, with the next one Wednesday night, the second supermoon this month. The last time there were two supermoons in a month was in 2018. The next time will be in 2037. A supermoon is perhaps a misnomer. The moon is the same one we always have, it is […]
Thursday Night Lights
At times life can be a learning experience. I’m not happy with the fireworks pictures I took in Old Orchard Beach earlier this month. I opted not to bring my camera with me on vacation. The phone I bought last fall is reputed to take great photos, and it isn’t as if I expected to […]
