No not that moon. This one.

Walking along Old Orchard Beach at dawn earlier this month, I noted a number of snails and snail shells. I suppose that is not unusual, but it seemed to me to be more of the one type than I remember from previous visits. Looking it up, i discovered that these are called moon snails.

I was surprised that the seagulls were leaving them alone, concentrating on crabs and mussel type shells. I presume that those are easier to get the meat from, though the moon snails looked pretty vulnerable to me.

I was especially struck by the color of the one featured here today.
