Monday I gave you a taste of the paths around the Black Forest village of St. Ulrich. Today we walk the same paths, but with a much different view.
On a hot day it is nice to be in the shade of the forest trees. But what makes the walk spectacular is the view when you walk out of the trees into a clearing and can see the hills around and the valley below.
What the pictures can’t capture are the sounds. The forest is full of birds. And at least one area farmer has bells on his cattle – you could hear the cowbells from all directions.
Walking and hiking are very popular in this area. The cynic in me would say that is because there is nothing else to do. Admittedly, leisure activities are limited, but I think Germans just enjoy the outdoors. On Saturday the trails weren’t crowded, but we would meet someone new every hundred metres or so.
Today’s post gives you just a glimmer of the view while we walked. It is much more impressive when you see it for yourself. Tomorrow I’ll have some different views.
