What I Wanted To Say Was…

Sometimes I just don’t know where my mind is going. Today I will be disciplined, I promise.

I knew what I wanted to say when I sat down to write a post for January 1, New Year’s Day. However, what I typed was completely different.

Given that it is a new year, I wanted to set an agenda of sorts, let you know what you could expect to find here for 2018. Maybe it is indicative that I got distracted and went in a completely different direction. There’s a reason why this blog is titled “Random Thoughts.” Some days I just don’t know where my mind is going.

That being said, I do know some of what you can expect in the next 12 months. At least, I think I do. We’ll see when we look back on December 31. Maybe letting you in on these plans will ensure that I follow through.

I probably have 40 half-written posts on various topics. If I was the type of person who makes New Year’s resolutions, I would say I would finish them all and let you see them. Or erase them completely and move on. Most of them are on my old Blackberry – you’ve seen all the posts written on my new phone.

So, what’s coming up in the not too distant future?

You can assume there will be a lot of posts about Germany; cultural differences and travel pieces. I haven’t had the time to do much traveling here, but I have snapped a few photos to share. There are probably thousands of potential posts within walking distance of my new home.

There are some music posts too that I just haven’t found the time to finish, and they really should be a priority. I was blown away by one particular album in 2017 that I haven’t published anything about. That one will be three posts I think – that’s how much I liked it.

There might be some political stuff from time to time. Living in Europe has provided me with some distance from the ongoing American melodrama, but there are still things I want to weigh in on. I should probably do the same thing about what is happening in Canada, though no-one in Canada cares about anything at the moment except the weather. When your daytime high is minus-twenty nothing else seems to matter.

When each day begins I am never quite sure what it will bring, both in work and personal life. I am dealing with issues of language and culture that I haven’t thought about much before, and those too I will share with you.

What else is coming up? Why are you asking me? I just work here. There will be some humour. The odd piece about sports. (Did you know there is a professional baseball league in Germany? I plan to see what it is like.) Depending on world events, there will be commentary on the news, society and who knows what else.

What won’t you find here? I don’t expect to start writing poetry, so you will be spared that. There won’t be many, if any, videos of animals doing cute things. Nor do I plan to share recipes or quilting tips. (No, I am not a quilter, my mind in its randomness inserted that for reasons unknown to me.)

I am grateful that you have joined me for this ride. I think 2018 is going to be a lot of fun. And, or course, I am always open to suggestions. If there is something you want to see here, let me know and I will try and make it happen.

Happy New Year!

  1. Just so you know I care very much about what is happening in Canada regardless of the temperatures. Now, if the natural gas stopped flowing, life would become a matter of survival. However I am deeply concerned, but praying my heart out for this great land of Canada. I hope many others see the tremendous trouble we are in and also pray! The fact that God hears my prayers and loves Canada more than I do, gives me hope and anticipation for what He will do.
I am unable to see other people’s comments. The link to see comments just brings me to this form.

    1. Yours is the first comment today Glenn, which is why you couldn’t see any others. Canada certainly needs prayer – thank you for your faithfulness.
