Canada celebrates 150 years of nationhood this year. It is a big deal here. There are celebrations everywhere it seems and there is even a sesquicentennial tulip.
I won’t say the tulip was predestined. Someone had to have the idea to create this special flower in white and red (our national colours) to celebrate this special birthday. Maybe though, given the proliferation of different tulip varieties that are showcased in Ottawa each year during the Canadian Tulip Festival, the creation of such a blossom was a forgone conclusion. Each year there are new types on offer. The Canada 150 tulip was first shown last year I think, but there were far more of them this year, which is only logical.
So today one specific variety to tulip is featured here, the Canada 150 (and this is only a small sample of the pictures I took). Enjoy.
