Each generation has a different approach to education. Sometimes the differences are slight, while at other times there is a seismic shift in how information is imparted.

Is one way better than another? Possibly a lot depends on your outlook. Knowing how to use a slide rule seems silly, as long as you have a calculator. but if the electrical grid were to fail and calculators no longer work, a slide rule might be pretty useful. (Don’t ask me for help though, it has been more than 50 years since i last used one.)

When Google was first introduced it was a powerful tool. Information at your fingertips. Now it seems more like ads at your fingertips, and the information you want may or may not be displayed.

Yes, we got through school without Google, or other 21st century aids. The real question is, did we get a better education tan students today?
