I think it was on the third page I grabbed my phone saying, “this can’t be real.” But it is.

The title over the novel isn’t important. I haven’t finished it yet, and haven’t decided if I would recommend it. What sent me looking for confirmation was the idea of a paternoster elevator. My guess is you’ve never heard of them either.

As you can see in the video it is a continuously moving, one person, elevator(though some can hold more). I’d never heard of that before. I had to have proof. Hence the videos.

I’m sure it is easy to miss your intended floor. It also looks a lot more claustrophobic than a normal elevator.

Technology makes me nervous sometimes, and the paternoster elevator would fall into that category. I would imagine that there are people, especially older ones, who have difficulty timing their entrance and exit. Maybe you get used to them.

With the risks I do see advantages though. No more small talk with the other people in the elevator because there aren’t any. The introvert in me would like that. I spend a lot of time saying hello to my neighbors so as not to appear rude.

And think of all the time you could save in not having to wait for the elevator to come! That has to be a mark in its favor.

Would you ride in one of these? Or would you take the stairs instead?
