The price of gas is supposed to drop at the pumps this coming Monday, as the Liberal government has temporarily reduced some of its taxes. Though not as much as the opposition Conservatives had demanded.
There is some question as to whether consumers will actually get a price break, as stations usually switch to summer grade gasoline around this time, and hike the prices. The ten cents a litre (40 cents a gallon) cut may not be noticeable with the price hike.
Then again, if the Strait of Hormuz is open due to the ceasefire in the war against iran, then prices should drop. Or maybe not – these days no-one seems to know what is happening.
Conservatives have been calling for cuts to the gas tax since prices at the pump jumped at a result of Donald Trump’s Iran adventure. Gas prices are up about 70 percent in the past couple of months.
The Prime Minister says the timing of the cuts, which came the same day as a Conservative motion on gas prices was being debated in Parliament, is coincidental. He didn’t get the idea from the Conservatives he says.
Today’s question: Do you believe him?
He has stolen/borrowed so many Conservative policies, why not admit this is another one? Does he think Canadians won’t notice the coincidence?
Or is it that since he didn’t cut as deeply as suggested, this really is his idea?
What is your take on it?
