Never Out Of Season

“Let’s do a craft grandma!” my grandson said.

He’s four. His idea of a craft is finding a willing adult who will follow his directions. If you don’t do it his way, there are consequences. Grandma is easier to convince to join in this fun than Grandpa.

This former pie plate with candles coming out is an Advent wreath. It was the beginning of Lent when he came up with this idea, but at that age seasons are fluid. children live far more in the present then we adults. He wanted to make an Advent wreath, so he and grandma made an Advent wreath.

It made sense to me. After all, the four candles around the edges represent hope, peace, joy and love. Those are never out of season.

The one in the center represents Jesus. He is the reason for the season, whether it is Advent or Lent.

Today, with Good Friday in the past and Easter still on the horizon, it feels as if the world is in limbo, waiting for something to happen, but not knowing quite what it is.

Like Advent, Easter will bring with it hope, peace, joy and love. Why not an Advent wreath to celebrate the season?
