You can walk from the train station into the old section of Orvieto, or take a bus. But it is more fun to take the funicular.

I’m not quite sure how you would get up to this Tuscan town by foot, bus or car, because we didn’t consider it. Neither, I think, did anyone else on our train from Rome. To me it made sense to go the most efficient route, even if it did mean lining up and paying a small sum.

I can’t remember the last time I took a funicular. It may have been in Quebec City or Switzerland, but it was around the mid-eighties.

Whenever it was, I don’t remember the view being like the one in Ovieto. I took quite a few pictures, figured I would share them here. I just realized though that I didn’t take any photos outside, So I can’t really show you what the thing looks like in context.
