The God We Choose
One sign that we are maturing is when we find ourselves believing in a God we don’t always like – Luke Norsworthy. It’s a pleasant feeling to finish a book and know you want to read it again. Especially a book about how God doesn’t live up to your expectations. Have trouble believing in a […]
Vienna Christmas Markets – III
A last look at the colours of this year’s Christmas Markets in the Austrian capital. But not the last of the photos from the markets. I’ve got another couple planned, with different themes, which will come up sometime in the next week.
Vienna Christmas Markets – II
More colourful images from the 2018 editions of the Christmas markets taking place in Austria’s capital this month. If you are planning on dropping by, most of these were taken in the market set up in front of the Rathaus. That one seemed to me to be the biggest, at least of the ones we […]
Vienna Christmas Markets – I
It seems everywhere you go in Vienna at this time of year there is a Christmas Market selling seasonal and gift products. It is indeed a wonderful time of year. I love the colours of a Christmas market, especially at night when the lights add to the brilliance of the displays. I must admit though […]
The Traffic Department
Yesterday’s post about my daughter’s cat reminded me of a time when the cat was actually good for something. I had a lot of fun during the phone call described here, and just as much fun yesterday when I re-read this post from March 16, 2016. I thought it was worth sharing again. “Mr. Anderson, […]
A Christmas Tradition
There are some Canadian Christmas traditions I don’t miss. Living in Germany means I don’t have to deal with my daughter’s cat and the Christmas tree. With her busy schedule and mum and dad not home, I thought she might not bother putting the tree up this year. I guess she decided she couldn’t disappoint […]
Relics of Another Age
Vienna is full of history. A weekend there wasn’t enough to even scratch the surface. Not surprising really. I don’t recall ever having taken a European history course, certainly not since high school. And if I did not much of the Austrian section stuck with me. I learned a lot in three days, and want […]
Did You Know…
… the snow globe was invented in Vienna? Neither did I, until I saw this sign on a snow globe display at one of the many Christmas markets on now in the Austrian capital. I’m not sure the display sign should be considered accurate either. I looked it up in Wikipedia, and I think it might […]
Hochberg IV
I hadn’t planned on extending this series to a fourth day, but I had too many pictures I liked not to go for it one more time. I expect tomorrow’s post will be more words than pictures – unless I change my mind before then.
Hochberg III
Pictures don’t really do justice to the ruins of the Hochberg castle. Especially given that it was a hazy day. I would imagine in the bright summer sun it becomes an even more impressive sight.
