I was in a hurry, and didn’t think to ask. The cashier handed me this piece of red plastic with my credit card receipt.
I had assumed it was for the shopping cart – most of the stores around here have carts when you have to insert a coin to release the cart from the pack. Some places give customers a token to use instead – that way you don’t have to worry about carrying coins.
It didn’t fit the shopping cart though.
It’s about 4 cm by 4 cm, rigid plastic and I can’t think of any use for it. But I don’t want to throw it away, just in case it turns out to be something I have a use for.
So can you tell me what this is?
If it makes any difference, I was shopping at Carrefour, the French superstore chain that is second only to Wal Mart in its reach. There isn’t one in my area of Germany, but to get to the nearest airport in Basel, Switzerland, I have to drive by one. So I make the odd visit.
Carrefour feels familiar in a way German stores don’t. It is big, and has lots of selection. I think it is probably cheaper than a lot of places, but price comparison is always a good idea.
But tell me, what is this red thing, do you know?
