Friday night a tornado ripped through Ottawa, a very rare occurrence. I’m in Germany. The first I heard of it was when I woke up Saturday morning to read that 150,000 people were without power.
Homes were destroyed, people injured and it was being described as the worst natural disaster since the 1998 ice storm (which I also wasn’t in Ottawa for). Emergency shelters were open throughout the city.
My daughter sent me these pictures showing a little of the impact on our neighborhood. We weren’t directly in the tornado’s path, but there were high winds and a lot of rain, bringing down quite a few trees. And knocking out power – she had to send these from another location since there was no internet connection at home with the power out. I’m hoping it is restored shortly so the food in the freezer doesn’t spoil.
When I woke up this morning there was an email from our pastor in my inbox. Church is on this morning – a little thing like no electricity is no reason not to gather together to worship God.
I like that attitude.
