It is the changing of the tree leaves from green to the golds, oranges and reds that I usually notice at this time of year. This week though, I have noticed more than that.
I still haven’t made it out into the forest to properly appreciate the season, and with rain in the forecast there is a strong possibility the leaves will be gone from the trees before I can enjoy them.
But I did notice some colour this week that didn’t require a walk in the woods. I was heading to work, and while waiting for a light to change downtown I noticed a splash of colour on the street corner. Not being a horticulturalist I usually don’t notice these things, but it brightened up a rather drab street corner.
At this time of year I expect decay in plant life, not blooms. So it was nice to be surprised by this profusion of colour on my way home from work. I walk by these plants every day and for all I know they have been blooming all summer without me noticing.
So if you feel a little down after last night’s presidential debate, these are your pick-me-up for the day.
