Given the state of the economy, this might not be an unusual sentiment. mind you, today’s seniors don’t have living parents to move in with.

I remembered of this cartoon last week when reading the obituaries in my local newspaper. As is customary, it was mentioned that one woman had been predeceased by her parents, and it gave their names.

I have never understood why this information is given this way. I understand the idea is to place the person in a family context, but why not say “daughter of?”

In this case the woman died at 108. Given that the world’s oldest person (as I write this) is 116, and eight year olds don’t usually have babies, it is a safe assumption that her parents had died previously.

It is one of those things that used to annoy my mother, and apparently I have inherited that annoyance.
