Playing It Safe

I keep writing posts for this space and then not sharing them. It’s the world these days.

I want to examine the turmoil in the Middle East, especially the battles in Iran and Lebanon that are impacting prices everywhere. But the situation is so volatile that I am worried about posting something that is out of date seconds after I publish it. So I hold off.

Maybe I should drop the analysis of world affairs and concentrate on cat videos. Except I don’t particularly care for cat videos. Probably most of the people reading this share that opinion – otherwise they would be on YouTube right now.

Or I could concentrate on music. I’ve been regressing recently, listening to a lot of stuff from 50 years ago. Some popular, some obscure. Call it musical comfort food. Maybe I should pass on some suggestions of what to listen to from a time that seems like an age of innocence. Even though it wasn’t.

I’ve also been avoiding Canadian politics, the good, the bad, the ugly. There’s a lot of turmoil there too. Discussing it doesn’t seem to raise my blood pressure, but maybe I’m deluding myself.

Instead I could haul out some of the partially finished posts from my travels. I’ve hardly touched on Egypt. There is more I could say about Vienna. And London. And many other places. Travel can be hectic at the time, but more relaxing than contemplating the war in Ukraine.

We could discuss books, art, sports (though that one might raise a few people’s blood pressure). there are so many topics that stay away from current affairs.

So what do you think? Play it safe, or post things about what is going on in the world that may be outdated by the time anyone reads them? I’m open to suggestions.
