Donald Trump’s big tax bill has passed a divided Senate. One senator who initially opposed the legislation changed her mind in exchange for concessions for her state.
That got me to thinking about the nature of leadership and the responsibility that comes with elected office. Where do you draw the line?
Is it moral to vote for legislation that will cause hardship to millions, as long as your constituents are protected? Which is more important, duty to constituents or duty to country? Does anyone have a national vision anymore?
Apparently not in America, which is rapidly devolving into a tribal society – in part due to its leadership or lack thereof.
Senator Lisa Murkowski has shown the United States and the world that in the American version of the game “Lifeboat” nothing matters, except being the one who decides who gets to stay in the boat and who gets tossed into the sea. Silly me, I for some reason still believe politicians are elected to do good for all. Maybe I need to do some rethinking.
