The Donor

Political campaigns need money. Getting elected, at almost any level, requires people who believe in you enough to contribute to the campaign.

Kamala Harris set a record Monday, raising $81 million the day after Joe Biden stepped aside as the Democratic candidate. That would indicate a pretty fair amount of support – more indeed than I had expected. It would seem that the consensus is there is no time to try and find a different candidate.

This isn’t Harris’ first crack at elected office, or even at the top job. In 2020 she couldn’t convince Democrats she was a better choice than Joe Biden. She may have an easier task this year in convincing Americans she is a better choice than Donald Trump.

Before her vice-presidency, she was a Senator from California. And before that she was elected Attorney General of California, where she had a reputation as being tough on crime.

For all of those jobs she had to raise money to run her campaigns. That takes lots of donors. There’s one donor though who gave to her campaign for attorney general that I suspect won’t be supporting her this time around. His name is Donald Trump.

In September 2011, Trump donated $5,000 to Harris’ re-election campaign. He gave another $1,000 in September 2013. Of course, back then, if I remember correctly, Trump was a Democrat.

He wasn’t the only one in the family supporting Harris. Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump’s daughter, donated $2,000 in 2014.

Political donor records are public. I doubt anyone is going to find any record of Kamala Harris giving to Donald Trump’s campaign.

And while Trump is doing his best to downplay the donations, it has to be pretty embarrassing for him that he once supported his opponent financially.

Watching politics can be such fun!

Maybe Trump isn’t the big liar the media make him out to be. Maybe he just can’t remember and makes it up to keep from looking dementiated.

One geezer down! One to go!!

Harris looks ok. Nice to see if a woman could do better. The feminists say a woman has to be twice as good but that, luckily, it’s not that hard.

If Trump won, he’d be older than Biden when he won. And he’s got heart disease & is obese according to the last doctor’s evaluation he was willing to release back when he was president four years ago.

Yes,the focus may turn to Trump’s health now. Not an area he wants to have scrutinized.

I wonder if the Republicans have a backup plan should Trump get sick.
