I went to a flower show. Not the sort of thing I normally do. I took lots of pictures to share here.
But somehow, in the 18 months since attending the event, I haven’t gotten around to those posts. Maybe I’ll make a New Year’s resolution to post only from my unfinished file for January. Does that sound appealing? A lot of the posts will be dated, but perhaps not.
This week I at least got as far as looking at some of the photos. I’m not a flower lover, but I will admit I can see the appeal. Especially at an exhibition that takes the best part of a day to see everything.
But the show was about more than flowers. Which brings us to today’s post, different angles on one of the sculptures on site, in this case a grasshopper done much larger than life. Technically I suppose it is more a carving than a sculpture, but why quibble.
I don’t think about grasshoppers very often. I’d be willing to bet you don’t either.
Grasshoppers have a much shorter lifespan than we humans. I’m sure their lives are fascinating and have purpose, but not being a grasshopper I can’t quite figure out what that is. I seem to remember from my early school years that grasshoppers exist to be eaten. Hey, we all have an important place in the ecosystem. I think though that I am glad I am not a grasshopper.
At least I don’t have to understand anything about grasshoppers to appreciate the skill that went into creating this sculpture.
