Missed Opportunity

I always meant to go back again. I didn’t get a chance to examine the decor. And the food was good, if a little pricey. Now I discover the place closed six months after I was there.

The Fliegerhorst Restaurant was located on an old air base, now an industrial park, in Eschbach in southern Germany. We went there with friends in the summer of 2018.

I had planned on a post about the place, but I wanted to wait for a subsequent visit. On that first (and only) time we didn’t stop and look at the collection of vintage cars and planes in the adjoining hanger.

I think it was the time of day and the fact our friends had a flight the next day. Sightseeing wasn’t on the agenda.

I remember driving past the location several times over the next couple of years, but never stopping. For me Eschbach was a place between destinations. And we didn’t eat out all that often in Germany (or Canada either – I like my own cooking), so I didn’t discover it was closed until this week when I was going through some old photos.

If I had known, i would have insisted on taking at least ten minutes to wander through the exhibit, to at least get a feel for it. As it is, I took more photos of the food than of the cars and planes. My excuse is that I was closer to the food, which was very artistically presented.

The reason I didn’t make it a priority, I think, was that a pricey hamburger is still a hamburger. I don’t remember what else was on the menu, but it didn’t grab my attention.

Now though I’m left wondering what happened to the vintage cars and planes. I’ll probably never find out – especially since I am too lazy to dig deeper.
