In Case You Missed It

Pakistan and Afghanistan have called a temporary ceasefire in their war against each other. Killing is on hold until Monday.

The conflict broke out a few weeks ago but has been overshadowed by other conflicts. Only two of the dozen or so people I mentioned it to were aware it was going on, despite a reported strike on a Kabul hospital Monday that saw more than 400 patients killed. (Pakistan says the report is Afghani propaganda.)

The break in hostilities comes as the majority of the population in both countries is set to celebrate the end of Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr. Apparently this is in keeping with Islamic norms.

Apparently in Islam you can wage war against other Muslims, killing as many as you like, just not on certain days.

I’ll let you draw your own conclusions.
