It’s been quite the weekend. The world is in turmoil. Nobody knows what tomorrow is going to bring.
If you are feeling nervous, upset, uncertain as global political events seem to be spiraling out of control, it is time to take a deep breath. Breathe in. Breathe out. Do it again. And again.
Each generation thinks it faces worse challenges than the one before it. I’ve come to the conclusion that better or worse is not the right term. Students and young adults have it difficult today, I understand that.
Is that worse than growing up with nuclear air raid drills in the schools, something quite common for my generation? Is believing you will never be able to own a home worse than believing you could be killed any day by a nuclear bomb?
I don’t know that there is any objective way to compare the two. We feel what we feel.
We face an uncertain future, and our leaders don’t seem to be doing much to make it easier. This weekend was filled with death and destruction. And it isn’t over yet.
It i in times like now that I turn to one of my favorite Bible verses.
In John 14:27, Jesus says: Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
There is hope. There will be peace. Mo matter what the world throws at us.
