I’m not convinced this one is true – but it is funny. Given the misinformation rampant online these days, I was hesitant to add to it – but this flyer speaks to those of my generation.
Supposedly this was issued by the Monroe County, New York, police to cut down on unnecessary calls to their emergency line. It sounds plausible, the sort of humor that makes a point.
However, I haven’t been able to find the original. The Sheriff’s website doesn’t list news releases prior to 2021, and this was supposedly issued in 2018. None of the references to it from that time that I could find link to an original. It could very well be someone’s idea of a joke.
Which is one of the reasons I stay away from social media. The algorithms know that I have a fondness for music, and throw all sorts of fantastical posts at me hoping I will click to find out more.
A recent example was a supposed concert tour featuring, among others, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Nicks, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Eric Clapton. What a lineup to appeal to baby boomers! And what an impossibility.
I could see all of them performing at a one-off charity event, but touring? Tickets would have to be about $2,000 each for the cheapest seats, given how much each can charge for their own tours. But on Facebook, hundreds of people were commenting on how great this was going to be.
I guess that explains American elections. Maybe Canadian ones too.
I do remember seeing a coyote once on the streets of Ottawa. I didn’t call police – it wasn’t bothering anyone.
But if I see one detonating TNT, I’ll make the call.
