I didn’t get lost. I just didn’t know the way out.
Maybe taller people are better able to navigate a corn maze because they can see over the rows. Mind you, they would have to be really tall.
I don’t remember when I last was in a maze. They are a way of experiencing fear and lostness in a controlled, non-threatening situation. It helps children learn to face and overcome their fears. Adults too.
I suppose for some people the biggest fear in trying to navigate a corn maze is that you would get so lost that you wouldn’t be able to find your way out. Thoughts of starving to death in a corn field might begin to creep in.
That would never happen of course. I suspect an employee runs through the maze at closing time to make sure no-one is left behind.
Yesterday I went with my family to a local apple orchard which had a corn maze. Always up for a challenge, I wanted to see if I could navigate the corn maze faster than my family members.
There was no fear. I realized that the biggest emotion I was feeling was boredom. It was unseasonably warm, we had been picking apples for an hour and I just wanted it to be over. Next year I will probably forego the experience.
