There really is nothing more I can say. When I read this in someone’s Facebook post I immediately recognized myself.
I’m pretty good with deadlines. Always have been. Though I had a tendency in school to start writing papers the day they were due. That worked until I hit the Masters level – 30 pages with footnotes isn’t something you can dash off an hour before class.
Writing for a daily newspaper meant there could be no procrastination. My editor didn’t want it perfect, he wanted it in a hour. No putting it off.
As a speechwriter I am i the same situation. Usually the date and time is set for the speech before I am brought int the loop. Rarely is there time for a second draft. I always make those deadlines.
At home though it is tougher.
Three months after moving I still have boxes of stuff to sort through. I can come up with reasons why it has taken so long, but part of it I am sure is simple procrastination.
The good news is that I am working on it. I managed to get through a couple of boxes on the weekend, and will do more this week.
Mind you, I am on a deadline. The stuff I need to sort to give away/sell/trash is piled on the bed in the guest room. Which was fine as we got settled – but now we have guest are coming who will need to use the room and sleep in the bed.
It is amazing how motivating a deadline can be for us procrastinators.
Am I the only one with this problem? Or am I just the only one who admits to it?
