I love to read. And re-read. Some of my favorite books I have read a dozen times or more.
This year I decided to try and do something I have never done before – keep track of my reading. I wondered if I would reach a hundred books by December 31.
If I stick to fiction it would be easy. By the end of June I had read 45 novels. Non-fiction takes longer (and the books that interest me have more pages than most novels), so I only had a half dozen or so non-fiction books on the list. Completed ones anyway – there are a few I have started and not finished (yet).
The books I have purchased and not read yet tend to be non-fiction, so I am slowly making inroads into the unread pile on my shelves. Most of what I read tends to be from the local library.
On the go at the moment are two historical fiction novels, a romance ( I think), an analysis of marriage trends in Canada, a biography and a book on the Vatican’s spy service. You probably didn’t even know the Vatican had a spy service – I saw it referenced in a novel and wanted to learn more.
I could go into further details, but I really should get back to reading. If you don’t have a book in progress at the moment, what are you waiting for?
Thank goodness for Ikea and the Billy bookshelves to hold most of my books.
Same new recently about the death of one of my favorite authors: Frederick Forsyth. Full range novels such as Icon, through to short stories like The Shepherd, immortalized by “Fireside” Al Maitland of the CBC.
At present, I just finished a pop fiction novel (A Wanted Man, by Lee Child); am just starting John A, by richard Gwyn, and about to reread Icom by Forsyth.
I can so relate!
