The Vice President of the Philippines has hired a hit man to assassinate the president. Sounds like a typical thriller plot.

The catch is that the hit man will not attempt to carry out his mission unless the Vice President is herself assassinated.

Sara Duterte says it isn’t just President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. who will die. His wife, and the Speaker of the Philippine House of Representatives will also be targeted.

It’s only been a couple of years since the two ran on a national unity ticket, winning a landslide victory. I guess it is safe to say that unity is long gone.

I’m pretty sure no-one in Hollywood would have accepted a script with such a plot, considering it just too unlikely. Though probably by now such a movie is in the works – although they don’t know the ending yet.

Who, if anyone, will die? We’ll just have to stay tuned.

And I thought Canadian politics was interesting! There is just no comparison.
