Orwellian Thoughts About Truth

\George Orwell was a visionary thinker. If you went to an English-language high school you probably had to study his novel 1984.

The book, published in 1948, paints a rather terrifying picture of a dystopian future that seems very much as if it is describing North America today. When I was a teen I much preferred Animal Farm, because the idea of talking animals was funny.

At some point this week i ran across an online quote ostensibly from Orwell referencing truth. being a skeptic, I looked it up. Several statements came up.

I didn’t verify each of these, but even if Orwell didn’t say them, they are worthy of reflection. I did recognize at least one of them.

As someone wiser than Orwell once said, “you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.”

Great post and worthy of reflection for sure. I read both books in high school, and I liked Animal Farm better for the same reason. I also agree with you about 1984 and North America. Could also apply to some places in Europe. When I read it 1984, I never dreamed that I would be living it, but there you go. Fortunately, the Bible is a firm plumb line amidst the chaos and deception.
