Where do you relax? Or perhaps the question these days should be, can you relax?
Our society is a fast-paced one. The changes in the way we communicate have brought an increased expectation on workers. Many of us are expected to be always available, always “on.” Forget the 35-hour work week, welcome to the 168 hour work week.
It wasn’t supposed to be this way. In the 21st century the experts said we would be working fewer hours each week, if we had to work at all. So much for the futurists.
I think once you get used to being always on call, even if you aren’t officially, it becomes more difficult to relax. There always has to be some sort of activity, especially on social media. I can be as guilty of that as anyone else. Have we forgotten how to turn everything off mentally and just relax?
Sunday, for many of us, is supposed to be the one day when we take time off work and concentrate on family and friends. In other words, Sunday is a day to relax.
My preferred method of relaxation is to sit on the beach with a book. That’s not going to happen today, if the weather forecast can be trusted. Still, maybe I’ll spend the afternoon sitting in an armchair with a book instead. When I am not reading I can dream about being in the beach as I was for two weeks earlier this month.
What will you do to relax today?
