Maybe Not What You Think

The cliffs are white, but this isn’t Dover. These are the Seven Sisters, as seen from Seaford Head, a local nature preserve in Sussex, England. Admittedly, it isn’t that far from Dover, and that body of water is the English Channel.

I must admit, I had never heard of the Seven Sisters, though I realize now they are quite famous. I’m a museums and culture guy – landmarks aren’t my thing.

We went there because a friend insisted she had to show them to us. Given that I had already passed on a visit to a quaint English village so I could go to a museum, I felt I should see what these cliffs were like.

I think it is the whiteness that is the appeal. After all, a cliff is a cliff. We have cliffs in Canada – but not ones that look like this.

So yes, I’m glad I made the trip, even if it wasn’t something I had planned on. Allowing others to choose the itinerary (occasionally) allows me to discover things I might otherwise have missed.
