What a lovely job title. One I am sure is very appropriate.
I saw this sign when I was visiting a church in the Toronto area last week, a larger one with a whole wing for children’s ministries. It was sitting on the reception counter, where I presume parents sign their children in on Sundays (and other times).
There are good reasons why I don’t volunteer to work with children at church. It is just too exhausting. It really is a calling, and not mine.
Which doesn’t mean I haven’t been pressed into service on occasion. There are times when you do things outside your comfort zone because at that particular time it has to be done.
Many people think I am great with children, because when I do have to fil in for whatever reason, I give it my all. The children have a good time, and I look like I am too.
The truth is more that I am counting the seconds until the parents return. As I have mentioned, I find the work exhausting. Although I suppose I must enjoy it somewhat or else I would just say “no” every time someone asks me to help out.
Those who work with children are the unsung heroes of our society. We take them for granted, especially the volunteers at church who serve in Sunday school and nursery classes.
They are indeed chaos coordinators who make our lives a little bit better. Thank you.
