Joe Biden says he will not step down. He is remaining in the race for President of the USA, and will be the Democratic Party nominee.
Americans now have two choices: Biden, who is showing his age (81), or Donald Trump, who could have a complete mental breakdown and no-one would notice, given how erratic he usually is.
I’m not an American. I don’t get to vote. But to me the choice in November is a no-brainer. After all, I watched the presidential debate in June. I saw how Biden struggled to convey his ideas.
Furthermore, I saw Biden in person last year when he visited Ottawa. He looked like an old man, which of course he is. Old men usually don’t have the energy for high-stress jobs like the presidency. But Biden plods on, telling ABC News in an interview aired Friday that only the Lord Almighty can drive him from the race.
I’m not sure I would want to tempt God like that, but I understand the sentiment. Biden feels he is the best person for the job. Apparently his party, for the most part is willing to stick with him. He expects the voters to agree in November.
I am convinced Biden should retire, for his own personal well-being, but even more for the good of the country. My opinion doesn’t matter though, he’s planning on sticking around.
Trump isn’t much younger, but seems like he is. His bluster and forceful speech, not to mention his frequent airing of grievances, somehow make it seem like he is 58 not 78. He won the debate on style, not content.
I suspect he picked up a lot of support. Certainly his polling numbers are up. Apparently no-one is listening to what he is actually saying. Biden may be slipping a little, but Trump is living in a fantasyland.
Which is one of the many reasons I couldn’t bring myself to vote for him.
Joe Biden may be past his prime, but he still has experience – and the ability to pick good talent. If his mind wanders, if he has off days, his team will take up the slack. No matter his mental state, he won’t accidentally start a war.
With Trump, one has to wonder if he even understands what war is. Certainly he has no idea of how the electoral system or the justice system actually work.
Or maybe he does. The recent Supreme Court case on presidential immunity has a lot of people worried.
While i haven’t taken time to read the decision, I can understand why in law a president is shielded from prosecution in carrying out his official duties. That makes sense to me – by all means lets not see retired politicians prosecuted by vengeful successors.
The ruling, which may protect Trump from prosecution for his acts on January 6, 2021, when insurrectionists tried to overthrow the American system, should also protect Biden from Trump, should Trump be victorious in November. But who decided what constitutes an official act?
Was Trump’s attempt to overthrow the results of the 2020 election part of his official duties? You would think not – he was a defeated candidate. Does the court ruling open the possibility that presidents can act outside the law and not be held accountable? Most certainly.
Some alarmists have suggested that, with this ruling, the Supreme Court has given American presidents the authority to order their political opponents assassinated. From a strictly legal standpoint, that would appear to be correct.
Ask yourself: can you see Joe Biden ordering the assassination of Donald Trump? Now, can you see Donald Trump ordering Joe Biden killed?
Your answer makes your vote obvious.
If Biden can order Trump’s assassination as an official duty and not be charged, he’d be doing the “free” world a favour. Maybe 3-4 conservative Supreme Court justices as well?
As long as Canadians don’t get a vote in US elections, I’d rather not watch their madness. Perhaps our media should limit the coverage we get about the US election to what we got about this week’s British election. And if Trump wins I don’t want to hear anything after the day after election night.
