They’re on everyone’s bucket list, one of the most visited tourist sites in the world. And they look like the world’s biggest Lego structure.
Well, maybe that Is an unfair description of the pyramids in the Cairo suburb of Giza. They certainly are an impressive site/sight.
Seeing them once should be enough. It isn’t as though the structures are going to change between visits. However, I went twice last year, and if I am ever again in in Cairo, I would probably drop by. There’s just something about these ancient tombs.
If you are a first-time visitor, you should be aware that there are more than just the three big pyramids that dominate tourist and travel photos. There’s a couple of smaller ones, some minor tombs and, of course, the Sphinx. How much time you spend on-site is up to you. I spent about three hours on each visit, though I know people who have whipped through in less than half an hour. That’s not my type of tourism. I like to absorb things.
I didn’t go into the pyramids themselves. That is an extra cost and I have been reliably informed it isn’t worth it.
Today just a few pictures from last year, perhaps as a promise for more travel-themed posts in 2024. And more pyramid pictures as well. I’m not planning much travel next year, but I have a lot of half-written posts to finish and share with you.
Let’s hope I get around to them, since obviously my plans for 2023 didn’t work out.
